Sheffield United Finally Off Mark With Dramatic Win Over Wolves

November 04, (THEWILL) – Sheffield United finally registered their first English Premier League win of the season, beating Wolves 2-1 at Bramall Lane, thanks to a dramatic last-gasp penalty by skipper Oliver Norwood. The Blades had gone 10 games without a victory until Norwood smashed home a penalty in the 97th minute after Fabio Silva fouled George Baldock.

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde had equalised for Wolves in the 89th minute to cancel out Cameron Archer’s impressive 72nd-minute opener. However, Norwood’s cool spot-kick secured Sheffield United’s first three points of the campaign after VAR confirmed the decision.

The game was played in difficult wet conditions, which led to a chaotic start. Wolves looked most dangerous early on but could not capitalise. Sheffield United were much improved after the break and deservedly went ahead through on-loan Aston Villa striker Archer’s fine 25-yard strike.

Bellegarde’s deflected late effort looked to have denied the hosts victory but Silva’s foul on Baldock gave Norwood the chance to finally get Sheffield United off the mark. After a VAR check, the Blades captain smashed the ball in off the bar to spark wild celebrations.

The dramatic win takes Sheffield United to four points, level with Vincent Kompany’s struggling Burnley. Meanwhile, Wolves’ five-match unbeaten run came to an end, despite penalty frustration against Newcastle last week. This was the tonic Paul Heckingbottom’s side needed after a torrid start to the season.
