SAN FRANCISCO, January 23, (THEWILL) –  Serena Williams has suffered a defeat at the 2019 Australian Open Quarterfinals.

Pliskova beat Williams with 6-4 4-6 7-5 in the last rounds thereby recording a second time she is toppling Williams after the 2016 US Open.

Speaking on the match, Pliskova said, “I think she (Williams) improved her game in the second set, went for her shots,”

“I got a little tight, played too passive. But I’m standing here as the winner, so I’m happy”, she said.

Losing at the Quarterfinals is a rare occurrence for Williams who is set for the possibility of a rematch with Japanese player Naomi Osaka.

Osaka won the US Open after playing against Williams in a thrilling and memorable grand slam finals in September 2018.
