Security Operatives Repel Unknown Gunmen In Ebonyi

February 03, (THEWILL) – Security operatives in Ebonyi state yesterday repelled unknown gunmen from. Ndufu-Achara community in Ikwo local government area of Ebonyi state in the early hours of Tuesday.

The gang, who were about 10 in number, were armed with AK-47s and wore only pants and boxers.

The Ebonyi state commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Mr. Terrumun Gbue, disclosed this at his office in Abakiliki when he received members of the Nigeria Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution, led by Mrs. Lady Achanya.

But there is no record of any casuality both on the side of the community, the gang and security agencies who repelled them.

“We recorded similar sporadic shooting last two days from these unknown gunmen and today again this morning they came but they were repelled by combined armed team of police, civil defense and soldiers.

“The unknown gunmen as we were told this morning wore only pants and boxers when they invaded Ndufu-Achara community in Ikwo local. They were heavy armed and were shooting and shouting, we don’t want Ebubeagu. This is not the first time they attack the community with same excuse”, he explained.

The unknown gunmen have previously killed three members of Ebubeagu Security Outfit in the area.

THEWILL learnt that the unknown gunmen have since last year taken arms in protest of the existence of the Ebubeagu Security Outfit in the area.

The first person was killed last year, second was on a younger brother to a journalist (name withheld) and the third was beheaded recently.

The area was peaceful until the inauguration of the Ebubeagu Security Outfit.

Earlier, the leader, of the team, Mrs. Achanya said they are in the state for peace education in areas where there are conflicts.
