Scotland Earn Playoffs Ticket With 2-0 Moldova Victory

November 12, (THEWILL) – Scotland has qualified for the 2022 World Cup play-offs after a straightforward 2-0 win over Moldova in Group F.

The visitors got off to a fast start and appeared to have taken the lead after only a few minutes when Che Adams scored. However, a VAR check determined that the Southampton striker was offside.

Following brilliant exchange play with John McGinn, Nathan Patterson scored after 38 minutes with a left-footed effort into the far corner of the net.

For the second Scotland goal, McGinn and Patterson linked up again, with the latter driving to the by-line before squaring for Adams, who had the easy chore of converting from a few yards away.

Moldova were handed a lifeline when Patterson was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the box, only for Craig Gordon to save the penalty kick and keep Scotland’s two-goal advantage to the end.

Scotland finished second in the group behind Denmark with these three points, securing a place in the play-offs with a game to spare.

It is unclear who they will face, but based on their recent form, they will be confident in their chances. Meanwhile, the hosts suffer another another defeat, as they lose their ninth game in a row. They are firmly attached to the bottom of Group F.
