Schick Wants To Remain At Leverkusen, Despite City Interest

January 11, (THEWILL) – Patrik Schick of Bayer Leverkusen has revealed that he is pleased by transfer interest from Manchester City, but that he has no plans to leave his current club.

Schick, who struggled for form at Roma earlier in his career, has settled at Leverkusen and is having a productive 2021/22 season, scoring 17 goals in just 15 Bundesliga games – only Robert Lewandowski (20) has scored more, although playing three more games.

Manchester City is among a handful of Premier League clubs keeping an eye on the Puskas Award-nominated Czech Republic international.

City are looking for a ‘number nine’ this summer, but the Etihad Stadium’s pay structure may prevent them from pursuing Borussia Dortmund great, Erling Haaland.

Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, West Ham United, and Everton have all seen Schick play. Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick is a big fan of Schick, but despite recent reports to the contrary, the Red Devils are still interested in signing Haaland.

Schick has also been connected with Real Madrid, who are keeping a close eye on Haaland and Kylian Mbappe as they examine their options in the absence of veteran striker Karim Benzema.

However, despite the interest in his services, the 25-year-old Czech is committed to Leverkusen.

“Of course, it’s nice to read when you are associated with the big clubs. But I’m really, really happy in Leverkusen and want to go to the Champions League with Bayer,” Schick said.

“I love living in Germany. At the moment, I’m not thinking about another club. Everyone knows my contractual situation. And I would never cause problems for a club by pushing for a transfer.”

Currently, Schick’s contract with Leverkusen runs until 2025, and the team is in contention to return to the Champions League for the first time since 2019. Schick’s desire to stay is a plus for Leverkusen, who are not in a hurry to sell.

When they do, however, they are sure to more than double their €26 million investment from whichever club successfully convinces the Czech striker to make a switch.
