July 13, (THEWILL) – Al Ahli have made a £30m bid for Manchester City winger, Riyad Mahrez.
The Saudi Pro League side have already made a proposal to the 32-year-old Algerian worth in the region of £25m per year. However, Mahrez is still deciding his future and has not ruled out the move, but he could yet opt to stay at the Etihad Stadium, where he has two years remaining on his current contract.
City are not especially keen on a sale, but they could be tempted if Bernardo Silva were to leave the club. The treble-winning champions and Chelsea face losing key players to Saudi clubs this summer. While Al Ahli have made a £30m bid for Mahrez, Al Ittihad have brought in Karim Benzema from Real Madrid and Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante.
Al Hilal have also been active in the transfer market, signing Ruben Neves and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. They are also trying to sign Bernardo Silva from City and have proposed a contract worth more than £75m per year for the attacking midfielder. Mahrez’s potential exit could cause a headache for City. The Algeria international is a key player for the club and his departure would leave them light of cover on the right wing.
City could expect to receive upwards of £30m for Mahrez, but they would prefer to keep him for next season and are trying to convince him with a new contract.
