May 10, (THEWILL) – Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen, has received praise from Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his contributions to the club lifting the Italian Scudetto.
The 24-year-old’s spectacular goal to tie the score against Udinese, helped Napoli lift the 2022-23 Serie A trophy, and his lone goal against Fiorentina made him the highest-scoring African player ever in the league.
Sanwo-Olu joined other public figures, including Liberian President, George Weah and Nigerian President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in congratulating Osimhen on his impressive achievement. The governor, a University of Lagos alumnus, expressed his pride in seeing young people from Lagos excel and make Nigeria proud.
In a statement released on social media, Sanwo-Olu said, “As someone who talks about his humble roots in Lagos and continues to give back in amazing ways, we say keep flying the flag of Nigeria high with your impressive performances for Napoli. I look forward to working together soon to take football in Lagos to greater heights.”
Osimhen, who has an estimated €100 million price tag, will be looking to extend his record when Napoli face Monza at the U-Power Stadium on Sunday.
