January 02, (THEWILL) – Manchester United winger, Jadon Sancho, appears set for a temporary transfer back to his former club, Borussia Dortmund. Sancho has endured a difficult relationship with Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag this season.
It emerged in October 2023 that Sancho and Ten Hag had a training ground disagreement following critical social media posts from the player about the manager. Ten Hag demanded an apology, but this was not forthcoming. As a result, Sancho was exiled from the first-team squad.
Now, Borussia Dortmund are closing in on securing a loan deal for the player for the remainder of the 2023/2024 season. Sancho initially joined United from Dortmund in 2021 for €85 million but has made just 82 appearances, scoring 12 goals.
In a bid to rebuild his career, Sancho looks set to temporarily rejoin Dortmund, where he made a name for himself as one of Europe’s top young talents between 2017 and 2021. It remains unclear whether a purchase option will be included as part of the loan agreement.
The situation encapsulates Sancho’s disappointing spell at Old Trafford since arriving as one of England’s brightest prospects two years ago. Off-field issues with his manager now look to have brought his England career to what appears to be a potential premature end.
