October 16, (THEWILL) – For the second straight match, Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka scored the game-winning goal, while Patrick Bamford had a forgettable day as the English Premier League’s top team defeated Leeds United 1-0.
The hosts were looking forward to starting the match with their usual vigour, but play was stopped less than two minutes in because a power outage was interfering with the Hawk-Eye system and communications between referee Chris Kavanagh and the VAR team.
After a pause of about 40 minutes, play finally resumed and the Gunners took the lead with a goal from the in-form Saka, his fourth in three games after some critics were beginning to query his form earlier in the season.
In what may be regarded as a fortuitous win for the visitors, Bamford, who was introduced at halftime for Leeds, was unfortunate to have a goal disallowed and even miss a penalty, as Arsenal rode their luck, with a red card to defender Gabriel overturned after a VAR review, to win their eighth straight game in all competitions.
For their next matches, Leeds travel to Leicester City and will try to win for the first time in six games on Thursday, while Arsenal hosts PSV in a Europa League match that same day.
