November 09, (THEWILL) – Arsenal took a significant step towards qualifying for the UEFA Champions League knock-out stages with a comfortable 2-0 home win over Sevilla on Wednesday night.

Bukayo Saka was the star of the show, setting up Leandro Trossard for the opener before scoring a superb goal himself. However, the England international limped off late on to dampen celebrations.

The Gunners dominated from the outset at the Emirates Stadium, with Saka a constant threat down the right. He teed up Trossard for a simple tap-in midway through the first half after a perfect slide-rule pass from Jorginho.

Saka then doubled Arsenal’s advantage in the second period. He latched onto a pass from the impressive Gabriel Martinelli before cutting inside, sitting his marker and slotting home confidently.

The win leaves Arsenal on the verge of qualification for the last 16 with two group games remaining. A draw at home to Lens in three weeks would seal their progress.

Manager Mikel Arteta said pre-match that his side needed to “put to bed” qualification. Tonight’s accomplished performance suggests they are firmly on track to achieve that goal.
