Saka Apologises To Tsimikas For Collision That Led To Broken Collarbone

December 24, (THEWILL) – Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka has apologised to Liverpool full-back Kostas Tsimikas after a first-half collision between the pair resulted in the Greek international suffering a broken collarbone. The incident occurred during Saturday’s highly-anticipated English Premier League clash at Anfield, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

In the 35th minute, Saka barged into Tsimikas’ shoulder while battling for possession near the touchline. Tsimikas fell awkwardly off the pitch and collided with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. Scans later confirmed that Tsimikas had broken his collarbone.

“I heard he has gone to hospital so obviously I want to apologise to him. I didn’t mean it, of course,” Saka told reporters after the match. “For me, it was a 50/50 and I have gone shoulder to shoulder with him. I didn’t see him go into Jurgen Klopp either. I was focused on running forward because I didn’t think it was a foul. That’s my take on it.”

The draw means league leaders Arsenal remain one point ahead of second-placed Liverpool and Aston Villa going into the Christmas period. Saka admitted frustration at not winning but praised Liverpool’s performance. “It could have gone either way in the end – we’re proud,” he said.

With Tsimikas facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines, the collision could have huge implications in the title race as Liverpool also cope with other injury issues. Arsenal meanwhile will hope Saka can continue his fine form as they seek a first league title since 2004.
