January 19, (THEWILL) – In a highly-anticipated match dubbed the “Clash of the GOATs,” Cristiano Ronaldo scored a brace in the Saudi All-Star XI’s 5-4 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain at the King Fahd International Stadium.
Ronaldo, who recently completed a move to Al Nassr following the mutual termination of his contract at Manchester United, marked his first game for the Saudi All-Star XIs with a brace against Lionel Messi’s PSG.
The game got off to a quick start, with Messi scoring within three minutes of the kick-off. However, Ronaldo quickly responded with a penalty and a tap-in to cancel out Messi and Marquinhos’ goals heading into half-time.
In the second half, PSG took control of the game as goals from Ronaldo’s former Real Madrid teammate, Sergio Ramos, a penalty from Kylian Mbappe, and a goal from substitute, Hugo Ekitike, made the lead unassailable. Despite Hyun-Soo Jang and Anderson Talisca netting for the All-Stars, the Saudi team was unable to overcome the deficit.
This was Ronaldo’s first game since his suspension for knocking a phone out of an Everton fan’s hand last season, which was carried over to his time at Al Nassr. Despite the defeat, Ronaldo’s brace was a reminder of his continued dominance on the field and what he brings to the team.
