June 10, (THEWILL) – Sergi Roberto, Barcelona’s utility player, has signed a new one-year contract extension at the Camp Nou.
Roberto, a midfielder by trade, but often featured as a regular right-back, was in the penultimate month of his contract and had been on a rollercoaster of a trip for an extension for the past year, with it looking as if he would be allowed to depart for free on several occasions.
He has now put an end to the rumors by signing a new 12-month contract with Barcelona that would keep him there until 2023. A €400 million release clause was also included in this new contract.
Roberto joined the Barcelona academy in 2006 and has since played 316 times for the club, the vast majority of which came after his switch to right-back in 2016.
