December 11, (THEWILL) – Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has convened an emergency meeting of the State Executive Council, at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

The meeting may not be unconnected to recent developments in the State House of Assembly.

THEWILL reports that the political crisis in Rivers State took a new twist on Monday, as 27 out of 32 members of the House of Assembly, led by the Speaker, Martin Amaewhule (Obio/Akpor Constituency 1), dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defectors are believed to be loyal to the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who has fallen out with his political son, Governor Fubara.

The lawmakers had in a letter addressed to the state’s acting chairman of the PDP, cited the division at the national leadership of the party for their decision.

They affirmed their loyalty to the FCT Minister and former Rivers governor, Nyesom Wike.
