May 7, (THEWILL) – The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has directed the State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, to immediately commence the impeachment process of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The state caretaker committee (CTC) of the party, led by Tony Okocha, issued the directive following Governor Fubara’s recent remarks about President Tinubu’s intervention in the crisis in the state.
THEWILL reports that Fubara had on Tuesday, described the Amaewhule-led Rivers Assembly as non-existent while referring to the Abuja Peace accord reached between him and former governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, as a political deal.
Speaking when he received a delegation of political and traditional leaders from Bayelsa State, led by former governor of the state, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House in Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara declared that the state has no house of assembly and that he accepted the peace deal to give the lawmakers a “floating”.
“Let me say it here, those group of men who claim that they are Assembly members, they are not existing. I want it to be on record.
“I accepted that peace accord to give them a floating (soft-landing). That’s the truth. There is nothing in that peace accord that is a constitutional issue. It is a political solution to a problem. I accepted it because these are people that were visiting me and we were together in my house,” he said.
Reacting to the Governor’s remarks at a press conference in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Okocha warned that should the Assembly fail to commence the impeachment process, the party will invoke the relevant sections of its constitution to discipline them as APC members.
