March 26, (THEWILL)- Arsenal midfielder, Declan Rice, has revealed plans to convince teammate, Ben White, to reverse his decision and make himself available for England duty ahead of the European Championship. The 26-year-old defender requested not to be considered for recent friendlies against Brazil and Belgium, raising concerns over his international future.
Speaking to reporters, Rice emphasised White’s versatility across multiple positions as a valuable asset for major tournaments. “He is a really unique player because he can play three positions,” stated the 25-year-old. “In tournaments, that’s so key. He can play centre-back, he can play right-back, he can play inverted full-back.”
With the European Championship kicking off on June 14, England coach Gareth Southgate had warned it would be challenging to select White over players who featured during the international break. However, Rice aims to change his teammate’s mind upon their return to Arsenal after the international fixtures.
“When I get back I can have a conversation with him and see the ins and outs and see what he thinks. I would love him to come. I think Bukayo (Saka) would. I think Aaron Ramsdale would,” Rice stated, suggesting a united front from the Arsenal contingent to convince White.
The in-form defender’s absence could prove a significant omission from the English squad and impair England’s chances at the European Championship, given his impressive form and versatility this season.
