February 14, (THEWILL) – Inter Milan’s efforts to bring back the striking partnership of Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku proved fruitless, as they were held to a goalless draw by Sampdoria.
This result allowed Napoli to extend their lead at the top of the Serie A table to 15 points. The match marked the first time that Martinez and Lukaku started together in Serie A since August.
The game was intense from the start, with several opportunities for Inter to score. Lukaku had a shot that was palmed over the bar, while Martinez fired straight at Sampdoria’s goalkeeper, Emil Audero. Despite the efforts of other Inter players, including Hakan Calhanoglu and Michael Cuisance, the score remained goalless.
Throughout the match, both teams continued to create chances, but were unable to convert them into goals. In the final moments of the game, Inter had their best opportunity when Francesco Acerbi’s shot from 20 yards out hit the crossbar, but it was not enough to secure a win.
Despite the return of the LuLa strike partnership, Inter was unable to break through Sampdoria’s defense and had to settle for a draw. Sampdoria will next play Bologna while Inter will be looking to bounce back and secure a win against Udinese.
