February 06, (THEWILL) – The House of Representatives has adopted a resolution directing the Federal Government to immediately open the nation’s grain reserves and distribute grains to needy citizens to arrest the growing hunger in the land.
The resolution followed the adoption of a motion of national urgent importance moved by Brahim Ayokunle Isiaka (APC-OGUN).
THEWILL reports that the directive was in response to protests by youths and women in Niger and Kano States, on Monday, over the economic hardship in the country.
While moving the motion at the Plenary session presided over by Tajudeen Abbas, Isiaka lamented that the cost of living has become very difficult for Nigerians saying that the rising cost of cement has gone skyrocketing “Even though we have all the raw materials for the production here in Nigeria.”
“The House resolves to urge the Federal Government and stakeholders to immediately open the food reserves to address the hunger in our country”, he prayed in a motion that was unanimously adopted.
