October 16, (THEWILL) – Cristiano Ronaldo scored a brace as Roberto Martinez’s relentless Portugal thumped Bosnia and Herzegovina 5-0 on Monday, in their Euro 2024 qualifying match.

Portugal, who had already secured their place at next summer’s tournament in Germany with a win against Slovakia last week, continued their outstanding form under Spanish manager, Martinez, notching up their eighth consecutive victory since he took over.

Ronaldo, who extended his record as the all-time top international goalscorer with goals 126 and 127 for Portugal, opened the scoring from the penalty spot before cleverly dinking in his second. However, he was replaced after 65 minutes by Martinez before he could complete his hat-trick.

Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes added a third for the rampant hosts, before Barcelona’s Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix, piled on the misery for the hapless Bosnian defence by making it 5-0 before half-time.

Bosnia, led up front by veteran, Edin Dzeko, now cannot progress from the group after Slovakia beat Luxembourg 1-0. They have two games left, but are seven points adrift of Slovakia in second place in Group J, with Portugal runaway leaders, having won all eight games so far, scoring 32 goals and conceding just twice.
