June 10, (THEWILL)- Max Verstappen further cemented his dominance in Formula 1, cruising to victory in the rain-hit Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal on Sunday. It marked the Red Bull driver’s 50th win in his last 75 starts, underlining his stranglehold over the sport.

The 26-year-old Dutchman crossed the line 3.879 seconds ahead of Lando Norris in the McLaren, who clinched an impressive second-place finish. George Russell finished third for Mercedes in a race complicated by intermittent showers, crashes and multiple safety car periods.

Wet weather made for challenging conditions throughout the 70-lap race on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. However, Verstappen demonstrated his peerless skill in mixed conditions, deftly managing his pace and tyre strategy to win comfortably.

For Norris, second place represented his best result of the season so far and a welcome return to the podium. Russell’s third place continues his consistent points-scoring form for Mercedes as they aim to reel in Red Bull’s performance advantage.

The next race is the Austrian Grand Prix on July 2, where Verstappen will once again start as the overwhelming favourite to extend his lead in the drivers’ championship.
