October 12, (THEWILL) – Bayern Munich defeated Viktoria Plzen 4-2 to comfortably advance to the round of 16 and set a record with their 11th straight UEFA Champions League group stage victory.
The game on Wednesday at Doosan Arena was decided by halftime thanks to goals from Sadio Mane, Thomas Muller, and a brace from Leon Goretzka for Julian Nagelsmann’s team, who are failing to find their best form at home.
In the second half, Adam Vlkanova and Jan Kliment helped to cut the gap, but Bayern was never really in danger of losing through any sort of comeback their opponents could muster and finished the game with a two-goal cushion.
The serial German champions improved to 12 points in Group C, putting third-place Barcelona out of reach and advancing through to the knockout round of the competition once again.
On Sunday, both teams resume domestic play with Bayern hosting Freiburg and Plzen visiting FK Jablonec.
