February 03, (THEWILL) – Real Madrid claimed a 2-0 victory against Valencia in La Liga, with goals from Marco Asensio and Vinicius Junior in the second half.
The match started with a close chance for Madrid, as Luka Modric’s through ball played Asensio clean through, but the shot was saved by Giorgi Mamardashvili. Despite several more chances for Asensio and Eduardo Camavinga, the first half ended without a goal.
At the start of the second half, Madrid took the lead through Asensio in the 52nd minute. The wide forward hit a powerful shot into the top left corner from outside the box, leaving Mamardashvili unable to save. Just 90 seconds later, Vinicius Junior increased the lead with a side-foot shot into the right corner.
Valencia’s problems were compounded in the 71st minute when Gabriel Paulista was sent off for a dangerous kick on Vinicius Junior. The sending off was a low point in an already difficult match for Valencia, who were unable to prevent Real Madrid from securing the win.
Madrid will face Mallorca on Sunday, while Valencia will travel to play Girona.
