June 03, (THEWILL) – After years of speculation, Real Madrid have finally landed their prime target Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain. The French superstar forward has agreed a lucrative five-year contract with the Spanish giants.
The 25-year-old announced his decision to leave PSG weeks ago once his contract expired on June 30. However, it was an open secret that he would join Real Madrid, with the move finally being made official by the La Liga champions on Monday.
“Real Madrid CF and Kylian Mbappe have reached an agreement whereby he will be a Real Madrid player for the next five seasons,” the club statement read. The French international will be unveiled by Real ahead of joining up with his national team for Euro 2024.
Mbappe departs PSG after seven hugely successful years in Paris, scoring 162 Ligue 1 goals and winning six league titles. He joins an already formidable Real attack consisting of Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo and new signing Jude Bellingham as they look to continue their domestic and European dominance.
The capture of Mbappe is a massive statement of intent by Real Madrid as they aim to build a new generation of ‘Galacticos’ to thrill fans at the newly renovated Bernabeu.
