May 4, (THEWILL)- Real Madrid were crowned La Liga champions for a record-extending 36th time on Saturday, after a 3-0 victory over Cadiz. Barcelona’s subsequent 4-2 loss to Girona left them 11 points adrift with four games remaining, mathematically confirming Los Blancos’ title triumph.
Under the stewardship of Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid have been virtually unstoppable domestically this campaign. With 27 wins from 34 games and just one defeat, their league dominance has been undeniable. Much of their success stemmed from new signing Jude Bellingham’s 17 goals from midfield and consistent scoring from attackers Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo.
The title defence continues Real’s domestic resurgence after winning La Liga in 2021/2022. Their lone setback was a loss to city rivals Atletico Madrid in September, who also eliminated them from the Copa del Rey. However, ambitions of further glory remain alive with a UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg against Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
While Barcelona’s loss leaves them battling for second place with Girona, the championship race was over long ago. Real’s relentless form rendered the outcome a formality, their superiority unmatched in Spain this season. Whether this dominance extends into future campaigns remains to be seen.
