April 29, (THEWILL) – Manchester United outgoing interim manager, Ralf Rangnick, has reportedly agreed to terms to take over as the new manager of the Austrian national team.

However, this position will not interfere with his pre-agreed consultancy role with United as initially agreed in his contract with Old Trafford.

Although the German is in charge of United at the moment, he will step down once Erik ten Hag takes over in the summer. Instead, he will work as a consultant at Old Trafford, with a contract that runs until 2024.

Rangnick had been courted by the Austrian FA to take over as manager alongside United, and it was confirmed on Thursday that he had been formally offered the post.

Therefore, Rangnick will take over as Austria’s next coach after Franco Foda stepped down following the country’s failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.

Despite rumours to the contrary, the role will not affect Rangnick’s contract with United, and he will continue to advise on the massive squad overhaul proposed for the squad, as per his contract.

When questioned about the stories making the rounds about his discussions with Austria, Rangnick responded: “What I can tell you and confirm is I will definitely continue with my consultancy role at the end of the season and for the next two years and I’m very much looking forward to that.

“We haven’t spoken, Erik and myself, but we have spoken with the board about the content, the profile of the job, the content of that consultancy role, we spoke about that and that’s why I can now confirm I will definitely continue with that.”
