July 03, (THEWILL) – Nigerian international, Cyriel Dessers, is reportedly poised to join Scottish giants, Glasgow Rangers, in what will be an ideal move by the forward.

The 26-year-old striker is set to sign a four-year contract with the club after Cremonese reached an agreement with Rangers for his transfer. Dessers, who previously played for Genk, had a prolific goal-scoring record in the Eredivisie and the UEFA Europa League in recent seasons.

Rangers, aiming to challenge Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title and secure a spot in the UEFA Champions League group stage, will be counting on Dessers to rediscover his scoring prowess in Scotland.

In their quest for success next season, Rangers have been active in the transfer market, with Dessers set to become their sixth signing of the summer. The Nigerian forward will join the likes of Jack Butland, Kieran Dowell, Sam Lammers, Dujon Sterling, and Abdallah Sima at the club. A medical is scheduled to finalise the move to Ibrox where he is expected to put pen to paper on a four-year contract.

Although coming from a challenging stint at Cremonese in the Serie A last season, Dessers’ previous achievements in the Eredivisie and Europa League highlight his goal-scoring abilities. With Celtic as their main rivals, Rangers will be hoping Dessers can make a significant contribution in their pursuit of the Scottish Premiership title and their Champions League ambitions.

Dessers’ prolific scoring record saw the Nigerian top the scoring charts in the Eredivisie during the 2019/2020 season while playing for Heracles Almelo. Additionally, he finished as the leading scorer in the UEFA Europa League in the 2021/2022 season during his loan spell at Feyenoord. Although Dessers faced difficulties in adapting to Serie A with Cremonese, Rangers are confident that he can regain his goal-scoring form in Scotland.
