June 04, (THEWILL) – The official website of the Scottish Cup winners for the 2021-2022 season Glasgow Rangers has confirmed that Super Eagles defender, Leon Balogun, has been released after his contract with the club expired.
Rangers signed the 33-year-old on a one-year deal in 2020, and he extended his stay the following season after helping the Light Blues win the Scottish Premiership. He made 37 appearances in all competitions for Rangers in his final season, helping the club reach the Europa League final before losing to Jose Mourinho’s Roma.
During his two-year stint with Rangers, he participated in 65 games across all competitions, with 40 coming in the Scottish Premier League, and scored twice while assisting three times.
Balogun previously played for Türkiyemspor Berlin, Hannover 96, Werder Bremen, Fortuna Düsseldorf, Darmstadt 98, and Mainz 05 before going to England and playing for Brighton & Hove Albion and Wigan Athletic. He was to play for Nigeria in international friendlies against Mexico and Ecuador in the United States, but he was forced to withdraw due to injury.
