November 24,(THEWILL) – Brazil defeated Serbia 2-0 in a routine victory to begin their World Cup campaign on a sure footing, with Richarlison netting both goals in the second half.
At the Lusail Iconic Stadium, the Tottenham forward scored a close-range goal soon after the hour mark, to give the South American World Cup contenders their first goal of the tournament.
Serbia was not able to fashion out a means to threaten the Brazilian goal and 17 minutes from time, Richarlison put an end to the game and secured the victory for Tite’s team, giving them a winning start in Group G.
The Selecao has not lost in their opening game at the championships since 1934 when they were defeated 3-1 by Spain, and that run was scarcely under threat against the Serbians.
On Monday, Group G play will resume for both teams. Serbia will attempt to bounce back against Cameroon while Brazil will be hoping to build on their winning start against Switzerland.
