November 28, (THEWILL) –Â Andre Onana, the goalkeeper for Cameroon, will not play in his team’s vital World Cup match against Serbia on Monday, after being benched a few hours prior to kickoff at the Al Janoub stadium.
Reports monitored by THEWILL state that the Inter Milan goalkeeper was excluded from the Group G match for unspecified disciplinary reasons, although another source claims that the reason was a disagreement with the coach over goalkeeping technique, with the coach preferring a more “traditional” approach.
Devis Epassy, a player for Saudi Arabia’s Abha, has taken his place in the squad.
The 26-year-old Onana participated in Cameroon’s opening 1-0 loss to Switzerland last week and has 34 caps for his nation. After a lack of playing time for Ajax due to his nine-month doping suspension from the previous season, he signed as a free agent for Serie A team Inter in the summer.
If Cameroon loses and Brazil defeats the Swiss later on Monday, Cameroon will be eliminated from the World Cup with one game remaining.
