November 26, (THEWILL) – Argentina were able to relaunch their World Cup campaign when Lionel Messi netted the game-winning goal in a 2-0 victory over Mexico at the Lusail Stadium on Saturday.
Argentina needed to win against Mexico in order to stay in the competition especially after Poland’s 2-0 triumph over Saudi Arabia earlier on Saturday.
Messi’s long-range goal after 64 minutes and Enzo Fernandez’s equally stunning late goal helped Argentina put their shocking 2-1 loss to Saudi Arabia behind them.
Mexico is now at the bottom of Group C with just one point, while Lionel Scaloni’s team is tied with Saudi Arabia on three points and one point behind Poland, who are now leading the group.
On Wednesday, Argentina will hope to get another win when they face Poland to finish the group round, and Mexico takes on Saudi Arabia.
