November 26, (THEWILL) – Kylian Mbappe scored twice as France defeated Denmark 2-1 to become the first team to secure a spot in the last-16 of the Qatar World Cup.
It took France until just after the hour mark to open the scoring, when Mbappe completed an exhilarating break.
Andreas Christensen’s close-range header past Hugo Lloris brought Denmark even seven minutes later. France almost took the lead when substitute Martin Braithwaite later hit the post.
Mbappe proved to be the decisive factor when he headed in Antoine Griezmann’s right-wing cross in the 86th minute to seal the victory, give the defending champions maximum points and qualify them for the next round.
France will play Tunisia in the last Group D match, and Denmark will play an Australia team that is also actively vying for a place in the round of 16.
