October 10, (THEWILL) – The pressure of the game has taken its toll on Neymar’s body and mind, and he has admitted that next year’s World Cup in Qatar would likely be his last.
The PSG star was instrumental in Brazil’s efforts to win their sixth World Cup in 2014 on home soil and four years later in Russia. However, with less than a year until the next edition, Neymar has stated that the tournament next winter will be his final appearance on football’s biggest platform.
Neymar has won 18 major trophies with Barcelona and PSG combined, but his domestic success has not translated to the international level; aside from the Olympic gold he won in 2016, Neymar’s solitary prize with the national team came in 2013, when Brazil won the Confederation Cup.
By the time the World Cup crosses the Atlantic for the first time since 1994, the Brazilian will be 34 years old, with the United States, Canada, and Mexico slated to host the 2026 edition.
Speaking in DAZN’s exclusive new documentary, Neymar & The Line Of Kings the Paris Saint-Germain star said “I think it’s my last World Cup. I see it as my last because I don’t know if I have the strength of mind to deal with football any more.
“So I’ll do everything to turn up well, do everything to win with my country, to realise my greatest dream since I was little. And I hope I can do it.”
