November 27, (THEWILL) – Croatia turned up their extra burners to beat Canada 4-1 at the Khalifa International Stadium, to eliminate the north American country from the World Cup after just two games.
Although contributing to an exciting opening match, Canada, which was participating in the World Cup finals after an extended 36-year absence, lost to Belgium by a razor-thin margin in that opener.
On Sunday, it appeared to be the same old scenario, but Croatia emerged as the rightful champions after Andrej Kramaric scored twice, Marko Livaja once, and Lovro Majer once to overturn Canada’s early advantage.
The first goal by Alphonso Davies was his nation’s first at a World Cup, but after five consecutive losses, they ruined their own chances of moving on, as Croatia ties Morocco in Group F on four points.
On Thursday, Croatia will play Belgium in a winner-takes-all match, while Canada will play Morocco, who were impressive in their 2-0 win against Belgium earlier.
