January 27, (THEWILL) – Nottingham Forest have made contact with Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper, Keylor Navas, over a potential move to the club.
The English Premier League newcomers are in search of a replacement for their first-choice goalkeeper, Manchester United loanee, Dean Henderson, who is currently out with a thigh injury.
Navas rotated with Gianluigi Donnarumma at PSG last season but has since been benched by coach Christophe Galtier, who has used Navas just twice this season in the Coupe de France. With the 36-year-old no longer playing regular minutes, Forest have reached out with an offer that would see Navas move to the City Ground this month.
However, talks between Forest and PSG have yet to make any progress, as Navas’ enormous wage packet is expected to be a significant issue in negotiations. The goalkeeper was also targeted by Napoli during the summer transfer window but wages were again an issue, with the director of the Serie A side, Cristiano Giuntoli, claiming the goalkeeper earns €15m (£13.2m) in gross salary per season.
With Forest’s urgent need for a new goalkeeper and Navas’s lack of playing time at PSG, it remains to be seen if a move to the City Ground will materialise. Forest are currently in the 13th position in the league table but just four points away from the relegation zone, with the second-worst goal difference in the division.
