June 20, (THEWILL) – Ligue 1 Champions, Paris Saint-Germain, are nearing a deal to recruit Nice manager, Christophe Galtier, with Zinedine Zidane ruled out as a viable alternative to current manager, Mauricio Pochettino.
PSG’s new sporting advisor, Luis Campos, has been tasked with finding a new manager, with club authorities reminding Pochettino that if a replacement is found, he will be fired.
The club has considered a variety of managers, including Ruben Amorim of Sporting CP and Antonio Conte of Tottenham Hotspur, but Galtier emerged as their top choice.
Before relocating to Nice last summer, the two worked together at Lille, where Galtier won the Ligue 1 title in the 2020/2021 season. Galtier guided Nice from ninth to fifth place in the league, culminating in a run to the Coupe de France final, which included a round-of-16 victory over PSG themselves.
So far, conversations with Galtier have gone smoothly, and a deal to hire him as the team’s new manager is close to being finalised. Campos had considered employing Zidane,a long time target for PSG, but the former Real Madrid manager is not persuaded that working with the Ligue 1 champions is the best option.
