SAN FRANCISCO, November 25, (THEWILL) – Paris Saint-Germain scaled over RB Leipzig into second place in their UEFA Champions League Group H tie after Neymar’s first-half penalty helped to secure 1-0 win over the Bundesliga side on Tuesday.

In the first leg of this tie, Thomas Tuchel’s side had endured a scarring 2-1 defeat in Germany before the international break. But, the French champions were able to get their campaign back on track at the Parc des Princes despite an uncommon underwhelming display.

It was a day when Neymar opened his Champions League account for the season. In the 11th minute, the Brazilian slotted the ball home from 12 yards after winger Angel Di Maria had been fouled just inside the penalty area by Austrian midfielder Marcel Sabitzer.

In his attempt to make amends, Sabitzer saw his effort deflected narrowly wide soon after, with PSG keeper Keylor Navas also tipping over Dayot Upamecano’s header from the resulting corner.

Just after the half-hour mark, Di Maria whipped a free-kick wide of Peter Gulacsi’s right-hand post. The visitors continued to look bright after the interval, but Emil Forsberg and Sabitzer did not make their chances count.

Leipzig’s Danish forward Yussuf Poulsen also allowed a heading opportunity from a corner go begging with 10 minutes remaining as Leipzig looked the more likely to score every time the chance came.

However, PSG held on and claimed maximum points, condemning Leipzig to a second consecutive away Champions League defeat following their 5-0 thumping by Manchester United in October.

PSG will host Bordeaux on Saturday in their next game, while Leipzig entertain Arminia Bielefeld in the Bundesliga on the same day.
