August 05, (THEWILL) – The management of Dawanau Grains International Market Association in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State has engaged 800 security personnel to secure the market.
The President of the market, Alhaji Muntaka Isa, on Monday, told newsmen that the measure would effectively protect the market from vandalism and theft.
Isa said the collaborative efforts of the Nigerian Army, Police, and state security agencies had also significantly enhanced the market’s security. He said that an additional 400 vigilantes are working alongside the security personnel to protect the market.
The market has faced threats from hoodlums in neighbouring areas such as Kurnan Asabe and Bachirawa, who have attempted to forcefully enter and steal food items from the market.
To counter this, the market has hired 400 vigilantes to support the security agencies.
The market management has committed to continuing its support for the security personnel deployed to protect public buildings against vandalism.
Isa urged the neighbouring communities to assist security personnel by providing information on the movement of hoodlums, ensuring the safety and security of the market and its stakeholders.
Meanwhile, normalcy is gradually returning to Kano as the residents came out of their residences en-masse this Monday to buy foodstuff and other essential commodities.
This followed the relaxation of the 24-hour curfew imposed by the State Government following the mayhem perpetrated by hoodlums at the onset of the anti-hunger protests in the state.
The government relaxed the curfew by six hours – from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. till further notice.
