Prioritise Workers Salaries, Gratuities Over Wasteful Projects – Adeyemi To Gov Abiodun

July 1, (THEWILL) – The Governorship Candidate of Action Alliance (AA) in Ogun State, Dr Samuel Adeyemi, has urged Governor Dapo Abiodun to consider the payment of workers’ salaries and unpaid gratuities, instead of embarking on white elephant projects.

Workers in the state had embarked on an indefinite strike to press home their demands, over five months unpaid salaries, unremitted deductions, unpaid pensions, among others

Adeyemi, who spoke this in a release in Abeokuta, the state capital, implored the governor to think out of the box to save the workforce from hardship, rather than waiting for the deteriorating federal allocation from Abuja.

The AA Gubernatorial candidate urged Abiodun to keep the change mantra promises of his All Progressive Party, APC-led administration to labour and the citizens of the state before things turn out to be worse.

Adeyemi, who described the workers as the greatest asset of the state, wondered why the current government had not paid its workforce five months salaries, when other states have paid, saying it is unacceptable and dehumanising.

He, therefore, appealed for quick resolution of the present impasse for normalcy, so that work can return to public schools, hospitals, Ministries, Departments and Agencies. as well as other government establishments.

The statement partly reads, “Dr Samuel Adeyemi, the gubernatorial candidate of ACTION ALLIANCE (AA), in Ogun State, has implored Governor Dapo Abiodun to take the welfare of the Ogun workforce more seriously, instead of pursuing White elephant projects.

“According to Dr Adeyemi, the greatest asset of Ogun State is her first class workforce, which can perform wonders if appropriately motivated.

“He implored the Governor to think out of the box, in order to turn around the deteriorating fortunes of the State, instead of waiting for Statutory allocation from Abuja, which is gradually drying up.

“He said the Party that came with a CHANGE mantra with enormous promises to workers and pensioners has been clueless in meeting the honest and modest expectations of the workers, pensioners and the masses at large.

“The Status quo problems of Unremitted deductions, Unpaid allowances, Stagnation of promotions, Backlog of several years of unpaid leave bonuses, gratuities and pensions.

“The latest dimension to the malady is in the recent hiccups even in monthly salary payments, where some workers are yet to receive their May salaries, when June salaries have already been paid in some neighbouring States. According to Dr Adeyemi, this is unacceptable and dehumanising.”
