July 19, (THEWILL) – An unnamed Premier League footballer has been arrested on suspicion of child sex offences in England. Legal reasons were adduced for keeping his identity secret but he was said to be a regular player at the international level for his country.
The arrest was conducted by the Greater Manchester Police on Friday but, following the statutes, he was released on police bail as the investigations into the charges levelled against him continue.
A statement from the Manchester police making the arrest public stated: “Officers arrested a 31-year-old man on Friday 16 July 2021 on suspicion of child sex offences. He is on police bail pending further enquiries.”
A response also went out from the club that the player is signed to. The name of the club was also withheld but their statement read: “The club can confirm it has suspended a first-team player pending a police investigation.
“The club will continue to support the authorities with their inquiries and will not be making any further statement at this time.”
At the right time, the details of the charges will be public as will the identities of the footballer involved, his Premiership club, the country which he represents at the international level and the facts of the case based on the revelations that come from police enquiry.
