Pregnant Women, Others Feared Dead As Rivers’ Jetty Fire Razes Over 50 Boats

April 11, (THEWILL) – An early morning fire at the Bonny/Nembe /Bille Jetty in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Monday, has killed at least five persons.

A resident source familiar with the incident told THEWILL that two pregnant women, a two-month-old baby, and a male adult, were burnt beyond recognition.

The sources said, over 50 boats were razed in the inferno, which started at about 2 am on Monday.

Although the cause of the fire incident, which is the second in less than four months was not known, the source said, it might not be unconnected with the activities of persons who attempted to load illegally refined products popularly known as ‘kpofire’.
