SAN FRANCISCO, November 06, (THEWILL) – The Rivers State Government has raised the alarm over the sale and consumption of some exhumed imported frozen chicken in parts of the state, which were earlier seized by the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), and buried at a dumpsite near Onne Port complex, Port Harcourt, warning that an outbreak of epidemic is imminent if the people continue.

The State Commissioner for Agriculture, Ominim Jack, who disclosed this at a conference of Nigerian Association of Animal Health and Husbandry Technologists (NAAHHT), holding at the University of Port Harcourt, described the act as terribly criminal, wicked and barbaric.

Jack therefore called on the state Police Command and other security agencies to rise to their responsibility to arrest the perpetrators.

The commissioner said information gathered by the ministry revealed that some residents went and unearthed the frozen poultry products and put them up for sale in the markets, while others simply cleaned up the products and made themselves delicious dishes of the exhumed chicken parts.

According to Jack, the state government is doing its best to improve the living standard of citizens, adding that those turning deaf ears to the advice by government by indulging in acts of endangering their own lives and that of others, would have themselves to blame.
