September 21, (THEWILL) – Tottenham Hotspur staged a comeback to defeat Brentford 3-1 in an English Premier League London derby on Saturday.
The match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium saw an early setback for the home side when Bryan Mbeumo scored for Brentford after just 23 seconds.
The hosts quickly equalised through Dominic Solanke, who netted his first goal for Tottenham in the 8th minute. Brennan Johnson then put Spurs ahead in the 28th minute, finishing off a rapid counter-attack with a precise shot from a difficult angle.
Brentford threatened to level the score midway through the second half, but Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario made a crucial save to deny Kevin Schade’s header. This stop proved vital as Spurs went on to extend their lead.
James Maddison sealed the victory for Tottenham in the 85th minute. The midfielder finished another fast break with a deft lob over Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken, bringing the final score to 3-1.
The result improves Tottenham’s strong form under manager Ange Postecoglou in the 2023/2024 season, especially after their narrow 1-nil loss to their other city rivals Arsenal in the first North London Derby of the season.
