June 08, (THEWILL) – Nasarawa State Police Command have sealed off the State’s House of Assembly Complex, to avert a breakdown of law and order, following the emergence of two speakers for the seventh assembly.

A statement by the Spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Ramhan Nansel, said the action followed a directive by the state Commissioner of Police, Maiyaki Mohammed-Baba, after consultation with other security agencies in the state.

The members-elect on Tuesday, June 6, held two parallel proceedings, resulting in the emergence of the immediate past Speaker, Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi and Daniel Ogah-Ogazi, a member representing Kokona East constituency in the Assembly, as different speakers for the assembly.

While Balarabe-Abdullahi was elected at a sitting that was held at the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ogah-Ogazi emerged as Speaker from the proceedings at the State Assembly complex

The Ogah-Ogazi’s faction of the Assembly, earlier on Wednesday, held its plenary, where it suspended the 10 members of the State House of Assembly loyal to the Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi-led group indefinitely.

However, the Police said, “No member from the two factions will be allowed entry into the Assembly complex until sanity is restored.”
