September 02, (THEWILL) — The Nigeria Police Force has launched the NPF Vigilant App, a digital platform designed to enable Nigerians report suspected financial fraud, submit relevant evidence and track the progress of their cases.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, unveiled the application on Tuesday at the NPF Conference Centre in Jabi, Abuja, describing it as part of the Force’s ongoing digital transformation and efforts to make policing more accessible and responsive to citizens.
According to the Force, the application was developed by its ICT Department in collaboration with stakeholders in the financial services sector to improve the reporting, investigation and response to financial fraud.
The platform allows users to submit complaints of suspected financial fraud directly through the application and upload documents or other evidence considered relevant to their cases.
It also provides a mechanism for complainants to monitor developments on their reports and receive feedback, potentially reducing the difficulty often associated with obtaining updates on complaints lodged through conventional channels.
The police said the application is further designed to facilitate coordination between the Force and relevant financial institutions in handling reported cases, subject to existing laws, regulations and established procedures.

He noted that the nature of financial crimes had evolved with advances in technology and the expansion of digital financial services, making it necessary for law enforcement agencies to deploy appropriate digital tools in detecting, reporting and responding to such crimes.
The IGP, however, stressed that technology must be deployed within the limits of the law and in a manner that protects citizens.
He said digital policing initiatives must uphold ethical standards and respect fundamental rights, particularly privacy, data protection and accountability.
He said the Force remained committed to ensuring that technological tools deployed in policing were used lawfully, ethically and responsibly.
The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Information and Communication Technology, Fayoade Adegoke Mustapha, urged Nigerians to download the NPF Vigilant App from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
Mustapha called on members of the public to use the platform responsibly by submitting genuine complaints and providing relevant information that could assist police investigations.
He said greater public participation was essential to the success of efforts to combat financial crimes, particularly as fraudulent activities increasingly exploit digital platforms and financial technologies.
The launch was attended by representatives of major stakeholders in Nigeria’s financial and technology ecosystem, including the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), financial institutions and fintech companies.
