August 05, (THEWILL) – The Kano State Government has announced the arrest of 632 suspects for vandalising public buildings during the recent anti-hunger protests in different parts of the state.
The spokesperson of the State Governor, Sanusi Bature, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, said the suspects were arrested during the protests and had since been arraigned before various courts in the metropolis.
Sanusi emphasised the state government’s commitment to maintaining peace and order, warning that anybody found guilty of vandalism would be arrested and prosecuted.
He also disclosed that the State Government plans to provide massive training programs for youths in various trades to enable them to become self-reliant.
He said that a committee of inquiry would be set up to investigate those behind the senseless killings and looting of public buildings in the state.
He said the main task of the committee was to determine the root causes of the violence that led to the killings and destruction and identify those responsible for the acts.
He clarified that the protesters, who carried Russian flags did not have any affiliation with the government, adding that the genuine protesters had submitted their grievances, which would be forwarded to President Bola Tinubu in Abuja.
THEWILL Correspondent reports that hundreds of protesters on Monday, marched on some major roads in the state capital, including Zaria Road, carrying the Russian flag in continuation of the anti-hunger demonstration in the state.
