Police Arrest 24-Year-Old Man For Allegedly Killing Grandfather In Borno

July 18, (THEWILL) – The Borno State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, Usakahyel Adamu, for allegedly killing his 90-year-old grandfather, along with 11 others for culpable homicide, vandalization, theft and drugs criminal intimidation among other crimes.

Briefing newsmen at the Police headquarters in Maiduguri, on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Nahum Daso, said that the attack resulted in the sustenance of serious injuries and death on the spot.

He explained that the altercation was based on the allegation that Yakubu was insulting the grandson without any cause.

“On July 7, 2024, at 4:00pm, Adamu Yakubu of Papa Gusi village in Kwaya/Kusar Council reported to the police station that his son, Usakahyel Adamu, hit his grandfather, Yakubu Ibrahim, 90, with a hoe on the head,” he said.

Besides the arrest, he added that the “hoe has been recovered and registered as an exhibit, while the suspect will be charged to the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice and prosecution”.

In a separate culpable homicide, Lawal disclosed that a woman identified as Lydia Aji and her husband fought with an axe on July 4, 2024, in Chibok Local Government Area.

“On the 4th of July, 2024 at about 0430HRS, one Bulama Mulikabu ‘M’ of Kautikari Village Chibok LGA reported at Chibok Police station that on the same date at about 0700HRS, one Lydia Aji ‘F’ 40yrs and her husband, one Aji Makinta ‘M’ had a violent fight which resulted to the wife, Lydia Aji, stroke her husband on his head with an axe and he died on the spot.

“Investigation further revealed that the couples had a misunderstanding over their daughter, one Rachael Aji 13yrs who stole a goat and sold it to an unknown person, the angry father then asked them to leave his house. The case is still under investigation,” he said.

Daso said the other 11 suspects were arrested for drug peddling and abuse, theft of solar panels and inverters, and a submersible pump valued at N80,000.

He restated the commitment of the Command to the protection of the lives and property of the residents while warning criminals to desist from their nefarious activities in the state.

“We remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of people’s lives and property,” he said, urging members of the public to be vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities in communities.
