November 29, (THEWILL) – English-Nigerian footballer, Ashleigh Plumptre, has addressed her recent absence from the Super Falcons squad. The 25-year-old full-back claimed she has been prioritising her fitness and body recovery during this period.
Plumptre recently transferred from English club, Leicester City, to Saudi Arabian side, Al-Ittihad. She scored a hat-trick on her debut for her new team, sparking questions when she was still omitted from the Super Falcons squad during the latest international break.
“It’s been more of a personal decision while I take care of my body,” Plumptre told local outlet Nigeria Football this week. “Ultimately, I want to be with the team. It’s a privilege and I want to be in the best physical condition to be able to go and compete in important games.”
The former Foxes star acknowledged she has used this time to focus on her own conditioning and prepare herself to perform at the highest level possible for Nigeria. “I expect to be back as soon as possible,” she added.
Plumptre stressed that she remains a staunch supporter of the Super Falcons squad and coaching staff. However, the team will be without their first-choice left-back when they face Cape Verde on Thursday evening.
