Players Won’t Let Deduction Derail Us – Calvert-Lewin

November 23, (THEWILL) – Dominic Calvert-Lewin, has said that Everton’s players will not allow the recent 10-point deduction in the English Premier League, to impact their performances on the pitch. The deduction, imposed last week for the club breaching financial rules, dropped Everton down to second-from-bottom in the table.
Speaking ahead of Everton’s crucial clash with Manchester United on Sunday, Calvert-Lewin said he expects “the weekend to be no different – if not, more electric” in terms of the atmosphere and his team’s determination. The striker said that despite the punishment, he has sensed “a lot of unity and togetherness” amongst the squad since returning from the international break.
According to the 26-year old, Everton’s players recognise that they cannot change the deduction but can only control their own performances in the games ahead. After a rocky few seasons narrowly avoiding relegation, Everton have shown improved form recently, with five wins and a draw in their last eight league matches.
Everton director Kevin Thelwell said this week that the club will use the deduction “as additional fuel” as they battle to remain in the top division. Calvert-Lewin reinforced this fighting spirit, saying the squad will prepare as normal for every game and “make sure we’re ready to put in a performance and collect the three points.”
In their predicament, a positive result against Man Utd is vital. Calvert-Lewin remains adamant that him and his teammates will give their all, proving that the punishment will serve only to bring the Everton squad closer together rather than tear them apart.
