April 09, (THEWILL) – The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) is conducting an investigation, after assistant referee, Constantine Hatzidakis, was caught on camera appearing to elbow Liverpool defender, Andy Robertson, during the half-time break of their match against Arsenal on Sunday.
The incident somewhat stole the show in the midst of a spectacular tussle between The Reds and The Gunners at Anfield. As the first half came to an end, with Arsenal leading 2-1, Robertson approached the assistant referee and seemed to receive an elbow to the throat.
The Scotland captain was soon joined by a group of his teammates who surrounded the referee, Paul Tierney, to register their complaint. The aftermath of the incident saw Robertson being booked by Tierney. During the second half, Liverpool came back strong to secure a well-deserved point against the league leaders.
Meanwhile, PGMOL tweeted their confirmation of the incident and their intention to investigate it fully. “PGMOL is aware of an incident involving assistant referee Constantine Hatzidakis and Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson at half-time during the Liverpool v Arsenal fixture at Anfield. We will review the matter in full once the game has concluded,” read the statement.
