Peter Obi Wins Massively In Abia, Ebonyi, Imo

February 28, (THEWILL) – The Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has been declared the winner of the 25th February presidential election in Abia State, Ebonyi and Imo.

In Abia, the Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the State, Prof. Abel Ezeorah of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Alike-Ikwo, said Obi polled a total of 327,095 votes while his closest challenger, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), came a distant second with 22,676 votes.

Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), scored 8,914 votes to come third.

Prof. Ezeorah said Obi’s score represents 86 percent of the 381,683 total votes cast in the election.

Also, in Ebonyi State, Peter Obi polled 259,738 votes to defeat Bola Tinubu of the APC and Atiku Abubakar of the PDP.

Tinubu polled 42,402 votes to trail in second place, while Atiku polled 13,503 to come third in Ebonyi. The candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, came a distant fourth with 1,661 votes.

The Collation Officer for Ebonyi State, Prof Charles Igwe, who is the Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria (UNN), announced the final results on Tuesday.

A total of 337,887 voters were accredited out of the 1,563,529 registered voters in the state, according to INEC.

The electoral body added that a total of 337,341 votes were cast and out of that number, 325,351 votes were recorded as valid while 11,990 were rejected.

Meanwhile, the Labour Party has polled more than 70 percent of the votes cast in Saturday’s Presidential Election in Imo state.

The LP’s candidate, Obi polled a total of 352,904 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Tinubu of the APC, who scored 66,171 votes to emerge a distant second.

The candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, came third with 30,004 votes while the candidate of the NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso, garnered 1,536 votes to pick fourth position.

The INEC Returning Officer in the State, Charles Esimone, said a total of 476,730 voters were accredited for the election out of a total of 2,125,446 registered voters in the state.

Esimone said a total of 459,261 were valid votes while 10,424 votes were rejected out of a total of 469,685 votes cast in the election.

THEWILL reports that like every other State in the South-East, only Obi scored up to 25 percent of the total votes cast in Imo.
